Fashion Week Poland Spring Summer 2015

Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15: Designer Avenue, Day 3

The last evenening of Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15 – our adventure in Lodz came to an end. There were only six collections to go!

Can you really call it a “collection” when you simply cut one main fabric into different shapes? Apparently, this was the concept here. The geometrical fabric reminded of arabian ornaments – but the very simple shapes of the dresses, pants and cropped jackets provided a platform for this pattern, but it seemed a little hurried, as if they didn’t want to think too much.

Cultural influences were the core inspiration for this collection as well – but they were done a lot better. The japanese theme was omnipresent in light summer coats with wide cut 3/4 kimono sleeves in dusty pink, grey and black cotton or silk, on obi belts made from leather on long chiffon dresses. A collection, that was very strong in womenswear, but sadly a little bit week in the looks for men – except for a grey summercoat in dusty grey.

ALEKS KURKOWSKI

Again black played a main role – not that we’d have a problem with that. But other than most allblack-collections, that are more often than not dominated by a very oversized cut, the Berlin based label made by a Polish-German designer showed urban, dark fashion that was very straight and tailored, if not classy. Cleverly abstracted bomber jackets with influences of classic sartorial men’s fashion as well as a strict vertical line in the silhouette put the collection into the realms of uniformity. Detailed minimalism showed in serious, pitch black coats and tunics in thick natural fibers, worn with tight pants that sat perfectly on the hip or more loose-cut, but never baggy knee shorts. A timeless, androgynous flair drifted trough the whole collection that might not have been very surprising, but solid and tought-trough in the most beautiful way.

The collections main idea was, according to the presskit,  internal longing for human relationships and a dissatisfaction with today mass-consuming culture. But instead of music, this was accompanied by a whispering, moaning, yelly voice that sounded like a drama piece by Samuel Beckett – not a bad concept per se, but something that would have worked a lot better in a more dramaturgical setting. In combination with the looks, that were somehow visually underwhelming in their almost scandinavian simplicity, the ears were completely taken aback and confused. An elongated cut or a wrap effect in blue, white or black here and there – but no adventurous cuts whatsoever led to a presentation, that was really hard to enjoy in the distracted, dizzy state that it left it’s viewers in.

DEAR USER, PLEASE NOT THAT ALL THE ITEMS ARE SELLING OUT WHILE YOU READ THIS TEXT. BUY THEM FIRST, BEFORE ALL OF THEM ARE SOLD OUT.

The commercial focus was very apparent here – out of brutal honesty or sheer capitalism? The collection consisted of easy-to-produce cuts in bold, saturated colors that fit the premise, presented in a fast and energetic show. Nothing bad, but not very exciting either. Apart from the black, streamlined leather coat nothing managed to awake our interest.

The SS15 collection is inspired by the art movement of Russian constructivism and elements of the Bauhaus-style. “Suprematism” is characterized by a minimalistic approach with a particular attention to details, white cashmere and silks elegantly combined with red goat leather and accents of embroidery and lace. The color palate of this collection evokes symbiosis with soft hues of white and grey boldly pierced by red and accentuated with teal. The delicate summery silks are refined with sequin embroideries to accentuate the signature print of the collection, which is both filigree and expressive.
