Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15: Abschluss-Gala Academy of Fine Arts

Fashion Week in Polen?

Fashion week in Poland? I have to say, at first I was astonished. Firstly, because I had never been to Poland before – honestly, Berlin has kept me busy enough  – at the very least fashionwise – not to let my mind wander elsewhere. Fashionphilosophy Fashion Week in Lodz had therefore completely fallen under my radar, although it has been up and running for 11 seasons now.

Which is why I was even more excited, when Fashionstreet Berlin got the chance to see the event as a member oft he international press from all different kinds of aspects, and not without a great deal of comfort and pampering. I accepted the invitation gladly and got on my way tot he third biggest city in Poland. 4 days of eastern european fashion are waiting for me. The newly renovated road of Piotrkowska Street, where palatial old-world-charme buildings frame cute cafes and restaurants, doesn’t just really fit in with the gloomy sidestreets that have still a lot of construction going on and sewage-pipes peeking out oft the ground. It seems like Lodz is one of those very beautiful older apartments that have gorgeous chevron flooring hidden beneath dirty linoleum.

You have to look at everything twice in this town, that is for certain. This tought carried on well into the Art Academy’s evening gala on October 22nd ,that showcased the universities fashiondesign graduates. The future of polish fashion… I expected avantgarde, but what I got was timid and gentle, sometimes bordering on commercial even. Which is not necessarily a bad thing and shows Polands motivation to become a blooming success in the global textile market. This dedication was also very present in the team planning and executing the event – everyone I met so far has been unintrusively helpful and competent. I look forward to those 4 days and will keep updating, this is going to be as exciting for you as it is for me.
