Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15: Designer Avenue, Day 1

The main location of Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15 is located in a congress-hall in Lodz – sponsors, exhibits and a “Designer Avenue” (where one can find things from furcoats to bowties for sale!) form the supporting program of the more established designers shows.

CONFASHION

The collection called “Enter the Void” draws inspiration from Gaspar Noé’s film of the same name and the city of Tokio. Strong colors, elongated cuts and knitwear are strongly featured. Typically for Confashion, the clothes are made using only the highest quality of italian yarn as well as jersey and silk.

MAGDA FLORCZYK

Minimalism and functionalism are core philosophies of the designer, who showed elegant cuts with a sporty feel in her SS15 collection. Lots of layering, symmetry and asymmetry in white, blue, navy and gold. There was a hevy architectural influence as well, a simplicity void of unnecessary decorations.

“I don’t take fashion literally, dresses are objects to me.”, the designer said after her show. For the first time, a small hint of avant-garde was present at Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15 – the sculptural clothes with seemingly stiff fabrics created an authentic space for minimalism that defined fashion as an art form, exploring the natural  shapes of the body.

KATARZYNA LECKA

Feminism is a big global issue and therefore very present in fashion was well. Like Katarzyna Leckas collection, that focuses on an independet, strong warrior-queen. Reminding of ancient eras like rome and greece, mixed with traditional Inca-era patterns and palettes. A deep and modern collection – but can the mashup of cultural symbolism work on an aesthetic level, given the base of wearability that really seems to be a part of every collection shown at Fashion Week Poland 2014 SS15?

KEDZIOREK

Fashionstreet-Berlin (FSB): Joanna, you said before the show that there was a secret message in the clothes – hidden in the layering of the fabric, the transparent jackets with hidden clasps, that allow the pieces to be interchangeable, as well as the “coded” prints?

Joanna Kedziorek: Yes – it is a message of freedom. Freedom for women to choose who they want to be. Freedom for them to change and to evolve – freedom to live under their own rules.

FSB: Your collection features a lot of different layers with varying transparency. How does that reflect on the woman who wears your clothes, and even yourself?

Joanna Kedziorek: I think people change everyday. We constantly change and adapt our personality to what surrounds us, and that shows in the way we dress. My clothes support that.

FSB: This is your 20th collection. How has your vision changed in those years? How have you developed as a designer?

Joanna Kedziorek: I have different dreams now, different inspirations…and I will show my designs in Paris soon, in a showroom – and so that is going to be another process, another change (she smiles) and take me somewhere new.
